History

FusionARTS was founded in 2004 by Janie Harland

Janie is a professional artist with a previous career as an advertising Art Director.
Initially frustrated by the lack of decent workspaces in Kingston, she sought out other artists who felt the same to investigate the possibilities of setting up a small studio operation.

The response from local artists proved the need for new studios was obviously there, however the concept of a small studio complex changed dramatically when offered 53 Eden Street.

It was a definite challenge

As Kingston has excellent Art education - but tends to lose many of its' graduates to the east end - FusionARTS approached Kingston University. The subsequent meetings formed a relationship and a project that is unique and positive.
By hosting the MA Art and Space from a large studio within our building, both FusionARTS and the students benefit.
We then became registered as a charity, and by enlisting a formidable board of trustees - the dream began to take shape.

In April 2005 we had our official opening

Opened by the actor Art Malik (Jewel in the Crown, Holby City), a local resident and supporter of the arts, upwards of 300 people explored the Art Studios and celebrated into the night.

studio opening

In the following year we opened our doors to the public for two weeks during Kingston Open Studios, in conjunction with the Royal borough, and again for a long weekend, pre-Christmas.

With our strong relationships within the borough, FusionARTS is now being used as a meeting place for relevant Arts bodies and Art tuition.

In April 2006 we celebrated our first birthday
