Artist's Statement
My current work encompasses both my computer based graphic work and my painting. The computer-based work is produced as greetings cards and canvas panels. These are mainly based on natural themes, including abstract and semi-abstract landscaped, plant forms and shadow/light effects. My painted artworks are mostly water-based mixed media, sometimes collaged and textured. They also follow similar themes as the digital work but involve a more abstract interpretation.

Background

My initial ambition was to be a nuclear physicist and as a result sat 'A' levels in Pure Maths, Applied Maths, Physics and Fine Art. I then studied for a degree in Technological Physics at University for 2 years, which I loved, but increasingly wanted to fulfil my creative tendencies! I then transferred to a Degree coursre in Public Art and Philosophy at Roehampton University, studying painting, photography and ceramics, and gained a First Class Honours Degree. After university, I painted for a while and worked freelance as a designer and desktop publisher, until a full-time job took over and I found I had no time for art. I then worked as a Technical Author, Graphic and Web Designer for various companies with the last 8 years being freelance. Working for myself has increased my freedom to pursue other creative interests. I have been selling in craft fairs for about seven years, selling my illustrations as canvas prints and greetings cards for two years and recently started painting larger works again. Renting a studio space at Fusion Arts Studios has given me the space to explore, experiment and create.
