I graduated from Central St Martins in 1983 and went on to design sets for theatre, dance and opera. Through my design practice I now create sets and environments for the corporate sector.
Throughout my career, I have continued to paint and draw for pleasure and in the last few years have been focussing on larger canvasses in oils and acrylics. Using the natural world as my inspiration, I experiment with the movement and texture of paint on canvas to explore the way colour and form work together. I also unconsciously seem to apply a theatre designers eye to my work, often finding that I have framed compositions or placed landscapes in a proscenium arch. It is however the excitement of colour that fuels me when I work. The canvases often move in unplanned directions as different colours and forms interact and come to life. |
